W3C MarkUp Validator: Validate your HTML/XHTML code for standards conformance. An essential tool for any site developer.

Astronomy Picture of the Day: Daily updated astronomy picture from NASA. Our Universe can be a wonderful place at which to look.
DepicT!: An annual 90 second micro film contest.
deviantART: A place to showcase digital art and get feedback from the community. Some great works in there.
Worth 1000: A site all about Photoshop contests. You will find images that are beautiful, disturbing, and sometimes both.

Internet Book List: A massive database of books. There are ratings and reviews of the books and you can submit your own.
The Elements of Style: An essential book by William Strunk, Jr.
Writer's Block: A web magazine for the writing trade. Has some good writing tips.

BrettspielWelt: A bunch of German games. There are some really fun ones in there, like Carcasonne.
Little Fluffy Industries: A constantly updated list of free online games, mostly flash. Many hours of time can be wasted here.
The Kingdom of Loathing: A crazy online RPG that is quite humorous. It’s still in open beta, but a good time even so.
World RPS Society: The official homepage of the World Rock, Paper, Scissors Society. Some great information here for those interested in this fascinating sport.

Audio Lunchbox: Lots of good independent music.
BLEEP: Music downloads from Warp Records.
CD Baby: Online record store that sells independent music directly from the artists.
GarageBand.com: A community site for discovering and rating independent music. They also help bands get signed to labels.
Magnatune: A non-evil record label.
VGMix.com: Remixes of video game music. There is some beautiful stuff in there.

52 Projects: A site about projects and project-making. Fun stuff here.
<------N-A-I-L-S------>: I don’t really know how to describe this other than a bunch of really strange but somehow compelling flash animations.
Homestar Runner: A fun flash page with a bunch of animations with a strange cast of characters. Strong Bad’s emails are the best.
